Bringing In Cows

By Peter Halstead

The sky is too close:
The clouds move down,
An enormous cosmos
Moves over the town.

Mist sloughs in above the pine;
Whole hills disappear.
Although it’s day, day won’t shine
This time of year.

These are the signs:
Air grows and grows.
Heaviness winds;
And the whole sky snows.
