Calm Through The Winds

By Peter Halstead

Two translations of “Soave sia il vento” from Così fan tutte

I
Calm though the winds,
Soft though the waves
Mirror the heavens
Above,
May they steer us below,
Both wild and grave,
Safely nearer to love.

II
Although soft winds
And becalmed waves
Mirror the sky
Above,

May they also,
Reliably, quietly,
Guide us nearer
To love.
