Edges From The Postcards

By Peter Halstead

On dozens of these newsstand cards
Pictures overrun their edges:
Ruins creep outside their yards,
Shortened gargoyles leap from ledges,

Soldiers toss back cropped-out drinks,
Heroes wave to absent friends,
Road signs point to missing links,
Lanes continue without ends—

Victims of the fallen border
Bled from overflowing panoramas
Whose boundaries are out of order,
Common lines without their commas,

Pools whose near infinities
Overgrow their given spaces
And splash in the vicinities
Of unpaginated places.
