Stripping myths away
From shots we hoped were true,
Bleeding time from days
And stories from the view,
Sugarbirds that beat
Against the frangipani
Leave colors in the heat
Only sunglasses can see,
Versions of a scene
That only time could bring
And only beauty mean,
Songs that only records sing
And photo albums prize,
The fading Cinerama view
That old men polarize,
Whose seas break softly
As they used to do
In a different year entirely,
Whose beaches somehow lie
Where sun no longer reaches
The unaided human eye.
