Two Trees
The arekas that we set apart
Are a calamity: weak and tragic
At the tip, reaching out, it seems,
To heaven for a start,
For wings, or whatever amity
Such social plants might seek;
While these, in common bonds,
In each other’s shade, or sins,
Tilted towards whatever magic
That such twinning built,
Competing in the trade winds
For an eternity of fronds,
Nourish steadily a quilt
Of fruits, which
Worlds, in their pity,
Sometimes stitch.
