Waves That Catch the Stars

By Peter Halstead

Waves that catch the stars
On unfathomable nights like these
Possibly are avatars
Of cryptic syzygies
Autochthonously
Risen from the sandbars
Where riddles crest
From glassy crypts
Underneath our secret seas,

A drowning night where
Monstrous sequences
Of stellar luminescence
Purl out sequins on the bay,
The opposite of sun:
But maybe hints, in any case,
Of a sort of recognition.
