Matthew Olzmann

Matthew Olzmann was born in Detroit. He holds a BA from the University of Michigan–Dearborn and an MFA from Warren Wilson College.

Olzmann is the author of Constellation Route (Alice James Books, 2022), Contradictions in the Design (Alice James, 2016), and Mezzanines (Alice James, 2013), which won the 2011 Kundiman Poetry Prize. His poems have appeared in the New York Times, Best American Poetry, the Pushcart Prize anthologies, Kenyon Review, and elsewhere.

Olzmann is a recipient of fellowships from Kundiman, MacDowell, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, and the Kresge Arts Foundation. He has taught poetry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the InsideOut Literary Arts Project in Detroit.

Currently, Olzmann is a Senior Lecturer of Creative Writing at Dartmouth College and teaches in the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College. He lives in Vermont with his wife, the poet Vievee Francis.
