New films at Bloomsday Film Festival

We are pleased to announce our partnership with the Bloomsday Film Festival and the James Joyce Centre on a series of three poem films. Directed, performed, and written by Irish artists, all three films draw inspiration from the multifaceted Dublin of James Joyce’s experience and imaginings.

Luke de Brún directs David Keenan in a performance of his poem “Joyce’s City,” exploring the evolution of the modern city through the eyes of a turn-of-the-century Dublin resident. Mo O’Connell directs Chandrika Narayanan-Mohan in a rendition of her “You City, You Boyfriend,” in which Narayanan-Mohan takes an intimate nighttime journey through the city’s changing streetscapes. Lastly, Katie McNeice takes the viewer on a quest for a giant through iconic natural locales surrounding Dublin, in a reimagining by McNeice of Joyce’s Finnegans Wake.

"Joyce's City" will screen at the 2023 Bloomsday Film Festival on June 15 at IFI, introducing Charlie Kaufman's new film Jackals and Fireflies, and all three films will be added to our online poem film archive in summer 2023. We look forward to sharing the fruits of this exciting new partnership with viewers in Ireland and beyond!
