The light that hits the ocean’s hum
Shadowed by the fronds of trees,
Softened waves rolling in from
Five thousand miles of seas,
Is a quilt pastelled
With colors, tones, and dawn,
The shading of a rubber raft
Traveling through the spray and held
Against each blade of lawn,
As spangled as a craft
Newly painted on the dock,
Benign as summer on the sea,
Evening on a harbor rock,
Lush as sunlight on a pool,
Dependable as a clock
And the tropic’s endless view:
A stormlit film of you.
