To the Harbour (Ke Pelabuhan)

is it true that every evening
the sun continues to be submerged,
my love?

i once learned, so long ago,
that the moon revolves around
the earth, and the earth, the sun—

the moon, like a yellow mango
leaning itself on clouds
that are jagged
and the burnt sun rules the heart
as cars go along the river and the river
flows into the sea, vast ocean—
is it true that it happens, every evening?

because to my left i only see
the orange glow of the sky grasping at the waving flags
and the horizon covered in shacks,
fragile and grey—

is it true, that one day
the sun and the ocean
will touch, and promise

as though spectacles that are vanishing
and will return

---

benarkah setiap senja
matahari masih terbenam juga
kasihku?

pernah kupelajari, sudah sekian waktu
yang lalu, bahwa bulan mengitari
dunia, dan dunia matahari –

bulan, yang bagai mangga kemuning
menyandarkan diri pada awan-awan
yang bergerigi
dan matahari terbakar merajai hati
sewaktu mobil menyusur kali dan kali
mengalir ke laut, lautan luas –
benarkah setiap senja?

karena sebelah kiri hanya tampak
nyala jingga langit merenggut-renggut lambaian
bendera dan cakrawala dirembeti gubuk-gubuk,
rapuh dan kelabu—

benarkah begitu, bahwa
suatu saat matahari dan lautan
akan bersentuhan, dan berjanji

bagai kedahsyatan yang menghilang
dan akan kembali lagi
